Architects: The Architects were the firm of Allison & Allison (They also did 8   buildings at UCLA and many major churches, schools in SO CA as well as the Chaffey Memorial Library.)

Construction: Class "A" reinforced concrete, with10 inch thick concrete walls, (per the 1937 California Earthquake and Wind Stress law, adopted after the Long Beach earthquake of 1933).

The work was performed from 1937 to 1939. Built by the Public Works Projects Administration with $195,000 in local bonds, it replaced the 1912 Auditorium and Library building that was condemned after the 1933 earthquake. 

 

 

Style: Spanish Colonial

Organ: The 1919 Austin Theatre-Concert organ from the old auditorium was placed in the new structure. It contains 54 Ranks (3,894 pipes) with the pipes housed in two rooms over the stage, with the music directed through two large ceiling ports overhead in the auditorium.

Bruce Jones, a teacher at CHS, is also a member of the American Guild
of Organists. He is playing the mighty Austin organ in Gardiner W. Spring Auditorium.
